Principals Message:

Parents/Guardians and Students:

Thank you for helping us get off to a great start to the school year.  The HHS staff and myself, feel the students are doing such a good job following the Covid regulations.  It is not perfect, nor will it be with 2200 students, but I am satisfied students are stepping up and doing their best.  When your student comes home you may hear from them some of the following:  Students won’t wear a mask, the halls are crowded or there is not a specific place to be during lunch.  If your individual student is frustrated, please have them come find me in the halls and I or an assistant principal will be happy to help them.  We want our students to feel safe and to be safe.  I have visited most classes and some students may, at times, pull masks down under their nose.  I have asked teachers to be vigilant and make sure students obey the public health order.  Hallways can be crowed but students are doing a good job walking on the right side of the halls.  As for the lunchroom, we are allowing students to eat in hallways and spread out to allow for proper social distancing.  To date, HHS is doing well and better than some may have expected.  It is understood that not all families have the same views on the current public health order, however, all public schools are under mandate to follow.  That said, it is our hope we can be united and supportive of students and their academic desires and extra-curricular hopes.  Thank you again for all your support.

Best,

Gregory Leavitt

Homecoming Week & Burning of the “H”

Homecoming week is Sept 8th-11th. We will have a few events during the week for students to celebrate. More information on these events will be announced during school hours and sent in next week’s newsletter.

  • September 8th- 7:00pm-8:30pm: Trivia Night in the Auditorium (Limit 50 students)
  • September 9th-8:00pm-9:30pm: Movie on the Football Field/Auditorium (TBD)
  • September 10th-7:30pm-9:00pm: Burning of the “H”
  • September 11th-7:00pm-10:00pm: Homecoming Football Game vs. Skyline

HHS would like to keep the tradition of Burning of the “H” as best and as safe as we can. The Burning of the H will be September 10th, 7:30pm-9pm at the Stadium. We will have very specific procedures in place to make sure that this happens. Please see bulleted points below.

  1. On Thursday/Friday (September 3rd and 4th) and Tuesday/Wednesday (September 8th and 9th) the SBOs will have tables setup during both lunches by the auditorium. During these lunches, students can come to those tables and sign up to attend in specific sections. We have a total of 21 sections in the football stadium. We will allow 25 students in each section which is (25%) of overall capacity of each section. The “Home” side sections (1-10) will be for Seniors and Juniors only. The “Away” side sections (12-22) will be for Sophomores and Freshman only. When students come to the table to sign up, they will need to verify what grade they are in, and then they can sign up in any of section found on their corresponding side. For students online, who would like to attend, we ask that you email Max Lepore at mariomax827@gmail.com. He will then place your name in a section on the corresponding side it belongs.
  2. Once a student has signed up for a specific section, they cannot change at any time. We will have to contract trace, and full cooperation of our sections is required.
  3. Walk-ins the night of the event will NOT be allowed. You have to has signed up for a section during the 4-day window.
  4. When students arrive, they will enter through the North stadium gates. They will then head to their section number and be greeted by a student officer and their names will be checked off.
  5. With only 25 students per section, we can properly social distance. Students will be asked to social distance while in attendance. Masks, AT ALL TIMES, will be required. If students are not in masks, they will be asked to leave.
  6. No Parents/Alumni will be allowed at the event. Students only.

Lifetouch Picture Day

Picture days are Tuesday and Wednesday (September 15th & 16th) during student’s ELA classes. Students will be brought to AT200 during the assigned ELA class time, have pictures taken and leave with their student IDs. Masks must be worn up to the point of pictures being taken. All students should wear dress code appropriate clothing. Order sheets for additional prints are available in Counseling, Attendance or Main Office counters.

Seniors who want graduation gown pictures may contact Lifetouch to arrange for an in-studio picture appointment.

Online students wanting pictures may go to AT200 on picture days at 2:30 to 3:30 PM.

    • Keep their child home from school if he or she feels sick or has symptoms of COVID-19.
    • Follow the quarantine guidance if their child or anyone who lives in their home is exposed
to someone with COVID-19.

    • Before the school year starts, tell the school if their child has a health condition that puts him or her at a higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. The health department will call parents of students who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 if they are exposed at the school.

Student Parking Areas:

  • Lot off Husky drive (southwest corner of the property)
  • The Main Rear Parking Lot: Students will access this lot by driving along the west property line to the rear of HHS.  Students must enter and exit this parking from 700 east.  This lot is also our driver’s education range. All cars parking in this area must vacate by 2:45pm daily.
  • Students must have a parking permit. Some free spots will be available for students who have not cleared NG’s.

Visitor Parking and Parent Drop Off

  • Visitors will park in the front lot closest to our front doors. Parent drop off will be at the west end of this lot.
  • Parents entering the HHS parking lot from 700 East will drop off students and must exit on to Husky Drive. It is one lane only exiting the property on Husky Drive.
  • Parents entering (two lanes for entry) HHS parking lot from Husky Drive will drop off students and must exit onto 700 east.

Safety and Time Considerations

  • Due to these traffic constraints, drivers should add a 20 minute window to their driving.
  • When entering and exiting on to 700 East, drivers should remain patient and watch carefully for pedestrians.
  • All drivers should give busses and construction vehicles the right of way as they exit onto 700 East.
  • The driver’s Ed range must be cleared by 2:45pm on days driver’s ed will be held. These will be announced via the school PA system.
  • When exiting the back-parking lot onto 700 East, drivers should watch for cars coming from the parent drop off lane turning left on to 700 East.

Safe Walking Routes

  • Students should use cross-walks and designated walking areas.
  • Students in the rear parking lot should use the gravel pathway to the rear of the building and enter the school through the cafeteria.
  • For evening activities, the public should use the rear parking lot.

APP Class

  • Students APP schedules may change throughout the first two week of school.
  • All schedule changes are done. All other schedule changes will happen during the first week of school.

School Lunch

  • For students here at the school, the cafeteria will have 4/5 lunch lines. Stickers will be placed on the tables so students know where they can sit (social distancing)
  • The entire first floor of the school will be open for students to spread out and eat their lunch. This will help promote social distancing and gathering of large groups.
  • Students will enter the line and be asked what meal they want. A worker will put everything on the tray, including utensils, before handing it to the student. The plan will be to have a scanner, eventually, where the workers can just scan student ID badges. Until the scanner is available, students should either memorize of have written down their student ID number to show the cashier.
  • Nutrition Services is also offering school meals to students enrolled in the distant learning options through Canyons School District. Parents may order school Breakfast $1.25 and Lunch $2.25 from the school where one of their students attend.
  • To place an order at Hillcrest, email the lunch manager by 9:00am. Behunin@Canyonsdistrict.org
  • You will need to add to your email the following: – Student(s)name, School they attend, Student ID number and Specify if they want breakfast, lunch or both.
  • Meals will be ready for pick up between 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
  • Menu can be found at https://canyonsdistrict.nutrislice.com/menu/hillcrest-high/grab-and-go

Contact Tracing

  • Hillcrest High School will be contract tracing at all school activities and in every classroom. This, however, will not be done during lunch time as we are encouraging students to spread out and eat their lunches away from other students.
