Attention Parents of Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students.

On May 25th, students will not attend traditional classes due to the Graduation Ceremony.  If your student does choose to attend, lunch will be served, and classes, for all students, will only be held in the STEM BUILDING and MAIN GYM. We welcome your student to attend, but as a reminder, it will not be a traditional day of school. The bus schedule will run as normal.

Yearbook Distribution

Yearbooks will be available for pick up on May 24th.  We do not have any extra Yearbooks however, we will provide Signature Pages for those who did not order a yearbook by the deadline. Students will sign Yearbooks outside and restrooms will be available. Due to the warm temperature, it is advised to bring water.

Graduation Reminders (Seniors Only)

Congratulations Graduating Seniors! Graduation is approaching, and Hillcrest is proud of all you have achieved in high school. The class of 2023 Graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 25th, 2023 at 9:30 am in the Maverik Center. Graduating seniors need to report to the Maverik Center by 8:30 am. 

Please see below for important senior graduation dates:

  • May 18: Senior Awards Night, 6:00 p.m. reception, 6:30 p.m. presentation in the Auditorium. By invitation only. Please click HERE to turn in remotely.
  • May 18: Senior Decision Day celebration, 12:00 pm.
  • May 20: Senior Dinner Dance, HHS Football Field 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Pre-Sold Ticket price:  $30.00. This is a full-catered meal and dance to follow. No heels. Hillcrest seniors only.
  • May 22: IB Recognition Night, 6:30 p.m. HHS Commons by invitation only.      
  • May 23: Mandatory Graduation practice, 8:30 am – 10:00 a.m., gym. Be on time!
  • May 23: Traditions Assembly (All grades), Auditorium, 10:15 am – 11:30 am
  • May 23: Senior BBQ, East side gym entrance, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
  • May 24: Mandatory Graduation practice, 8:30 am – 9:30 am in the gym.  Be on time!
  • May 24: Senior Yearbook Pick up,  9:30 am – 2:00 pm

Graduation will be here before you know it!  Here are a few additional reminders:

  1. If you have ordered your cap and gown, they are in the counseling center with your name on it. If there is a hold on your cap and gown please talk to your counselor. 
  2. IF YOU HAVEN’T ORDERED YOUR CAP AND GOWN: Caps and gowns must be ordered as soon as possible to ensure we have the size and to have it delivered to the school on time. Order online at  www.jostens.com.
  3. Graduation announcements/invites? Official and custom school announcements or Personalized Photo announcements can still be ordered. You can design, personalize and easily order your invites at www.jostens.com. Questions? Call 1-800-567-8367
  4. Senior Graduation Rings can also still be ordered, customized, and delivered to you within four weeks of the order. Visit www.jostens.com to view the graduation jewelry catalog and to place your order.

Arena Schedule Change

Arena scheduling has opened for the 2023-2024 School Year schedule changes.  It will then close at 11:59 pm on May 24, 2023. Please note that this is the only time you will be able to go on and make changes to your schedule for next year.  Additionally, there may be some courses that are locked and cannot be changed. Finally, please be careful when changing schedules. If a class is full and you have already dropped the class, you may not get it back. Please be especially careful in changing core classes and classes needed for graduation. 

If you need to make changes, refer to the directions below:

Arena Schedule Change Directions:

  1. Login to Skyward Family and Student access at www.skyward.canyonsdistrict.org
  2. Click on the “Arena Scheduling” link under the student’s name.
  3. View your current schedule by clicking the “view/print schedule” link in blue near the top of the page.
  4. If your schedule looks good, you don’t need to do anything.
  5.  If you would like to make a change, plan which classes to switch before you delete a class.
  6. To add a class, select “Search Options” and then click “Apply Filter” to locate a course by name, period, subject, or teacher.
  7. If there are seats available in the class you want, “Add” will appear.  Click “Add” to put the class in your schedule.
  8.  View your updated schedule again by clicking “view/print schedule.”  Make sure all eight periods have a class selected.  This means if you have an “add class here” in your schedule, YOU MUST FILL THAT PERIOD WITH A CLASS – DO NOT LEAVE IT.

Congratulations Huskies

Two of our very own Hillcrest students have been selected as U.S. Presidential Scholars. Seniors Michael Ogden Chen and Priyanka Mathews are two of the 161 students from across the country who earned the prestigious honor based on their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields. Way to go, huskies. 

Congratulations to Hillcrest student Edwin Salinas. He was awarded the Canyons School District Superintendent’s Choice Award. This award is given to students who have shown inspiring levels of resilience, personal strength, and dedication to learning. We congratulate you Edwin!

Congratulations to our Hillcrest students who have won the Draper Visual Art Foundation 2023 Art Scholarship Competition. The Draper Visual Arts Foundation is an organization dedicated to promoting art education and creation. This scholarship competition is open to seniors in the Canyons School District.

This year Hillcrest brought home 6 of 13 awards, including the grand prize and $3100 in prize money. Award Winners:

  • Blaise Brady (Grand Prize – $1000)
  • Emma Cecil (3rd Place 2D  -$300)
  • Jonathan Madill (3rd Place Photography – $300)
  • Lenny Beddoes (1st Place 3D – $700)
  • Imogen Valentine (2nd Place 3D – $500)
  • Alex Knorr (3rd Place 3D – $300)

Blaise Brady, Ti Jessop, and Jonathan Madill were also featured on Fox 13’s Good Day Utah.

Students at Hillcrest High School have earned Academic All-State Awards in spring sports. The UHSAA’s academic All State distinction is reserved for students who have a 4.0 cumulative GPA or meet an index score that takes into account a student’s grades and college entrance exam scores. Congratulations to the following Hillcrest Students:

Students at Hillcrest High School have earned top honors at Career and Technical Education Student Organization (CTSOs) competitions. CTSOs give students an opportunity to showcase their career readiness in fields. Over the past several months, HHS students have competed at state conferences. Here are our HHS first-place winners:

AP Testing

AP exams begin May 1st. Check your exam date/time on the College Board. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Williams in the counseling center. Please bring two number two pencils, a pen with black or dark blue ink, & a permissible calculator for certain exams. Do not bring cell phones, smart watches, food, or mechanical pencils. Career Corner

The Wasatch Health Science internship for seniors 2023-24

We are so excited to have this opportunity again for our students. Two students per semester will be chosen.  Key things to be aware of: 

  • Students must drive or be able to get to all the internship sites and Corner Canyon for internship classes. 
  • The student must be immunized. 
  • Students are required to wear scrubs. 
  • Each selected student will be provided with the required documentation once selected. 
  • The internship is from 1:30-3 pm on Tuesday or Wednesday each week, depending on A day / Bday rotation- there will be an individual schedule for the student.

Summer School

Students! Hillcrest will host two summer school sessions in the presentation room, 8 am-12 pm, Monday-Thursday.

  • Session 1: May 30-June 8 (to sign up, click HERE)
  • Session 2: June 12 – June 22 (to sign up, click HERE)

All classes will be in person. Each class completed is worth .25 credits. Grades earned in summer school are not for grade replacement and are for credit recovery ONLY. Coursework must be completed during the summer school sessions. Students must bring a charged Chromebook and charger each day. Bussing transportation will be provided at elementary schools. Please see the flyer for more information. Counselors will be available on Monday, May 30th, and June 12th to help with the registration of courses. 

Math Summer Bridge Programs

Canyons School District High School Math Secondary Honors Summer Bridge Course

If you are an incoming 10th grader who took Secondary I in 9th grade and would like to take Secondary II HONORS in 10th grade, this course is for you!

During this class, students will study the Pre-Calculus concepts taught in the Secondary I Honors course: vectors, matrices, determinants, Cramer’s rule, and operations on matrices and vectors. Students will need to show mastery of concepts through the end-of-course assessment.

The class will be held June 5th- June 15th Monday-Thursday (No class on Fridays) 9 am-11 am. Classes will be held in person at Jordan High School (95 Beetdigger Blvd, Sandy, Utah 84070)

University of Utah Summer Mathematics Program for High School Students

The Summer Mathematics Program for High School Students at the University of Utah provides outstanding students an opportunity to develop their math talents to the fullest. Participants will receive three University credits in mathematics.

We are a Community School!

We will be handing out Summer Break Meal Bags for students and families Monday, May 22 starting at 2 pm in the cafeteria.

If your Hillcrest student will need new tennis shoes for the 23-24 school year, please email elizabeth.demke@canyonsdistrict.org to add them to our shoe list!

All summer long we will be collecting NEW tennis shoes (men and women, all adult sizes) and NEW backpacks for the next school year.

During the summer we will be continuing monthly meal bags and our farmers market. We will be distributing meal bags with fresh items on June 22nd and July 20th at 11:30 am outside of the Hillcrest Free Market. It is located on the west side of the building by the playground.
