Diploma Program (DP)
The Diploma Program (DP) is a two-year, academically rigorous program designed to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people. It offers a balanced curriculum that consists of six subject groups and the DP core, comprised of three components: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). Globally recognized in higher education and beyond, the DP prepares students for success by developing critical thinking, research skills, and international-mindedness.
Through the DP, schools are able to develop students who …
- have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge
- flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically
- study at least two languages
- excel in traditional academic subjects
- explore the nature of knowledge through the programme’s unique theory of knowledge course.

Building your schedule
During enrollment and throughout your time at Hillcrest, you’ll work closely with Mr. Olsen to create a personalized schedule that reflects your interests and strengths while meeting all IB DP requirements and State of Utah graduation requirements. Your DP Pathway is fully customizable.
Full DP students must take one course from each subject group.
Students will take some subjects at higher level (HL) and some at standard level (SL). HL and SL subjects differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at higher level.
Each student takes a minimum of three or a maximum of four subjects at higher level, and the remaining at standard level. Mr. Olsen will guide you in choosing the right level for each subject. STEM-focused students may opt to choose a second science course in their DP pathway instead of a Group 6 Arts course.
