  1. Equitable Education Subcommittee

a)     History:  Subcommittee created during our April 2022 meeting.  Goal is to promote the creation of a more equitable environment for students.

b)     What is the status of the subcommittee?  What next steps and action items should we take?

Hillcrest’s diversity caused us to take a look at this issue. We deal with issues of equity and fairness regularly. After MountainView game, parents brought together and felt that this subcommittee would be needed.

Decided last Spring to form a subcommittee and report back to the SCC on issues. A forward thinking process.

  1. How do we nominate parents for this committee? Have SCC parents look in social group and reach out to those who would be a good fit. 10-15 members
  2. Have teachers involved
  3. Student representatives?

Motion: Select project managers to get this committee started. (withdrawn) R.J. Graham

Motion: Change the name: Hillcrest High School Equity Steering Committee
Motion made by Greg Leavitt and 2nd by Steve Brown; Motion passed unanimously

  • Give the committee a very clear direction. Be clear in guidance and direction.
  • Committee is for the benefit of the school–may take on additional responsibilities.
  • Address all issues that keep students from learning (not just ethnicity).

Motion: Ask for volunteers to be part of committee.
Motion made by Greg Leavitt and 2nd by R.J. Graham; Motion passed unanimously

May take a little time–we want to create a quality product.
