What is FAFSA?
FAFSA stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is the form you must complete each year in order to apply for federal financial aid. The FAFSA is available on October 1. You should file the FAFSA as soon as you can your senior year (and each year you are in college).
Why Should I apply for FAFSA?
- Access financial aid: The FAFSA is the key to applying for federal and most state financial aid, including grants, work-study, federal student loans, and some scholarships.
- Explore trade school options: Some trade schools are eligible to participate in federal financial aid programs, so completing the FAFSA may help you qualify for assistance with your training costs.
- Unlock more opportunities: Some private financial aid providers use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for scholarships and other awards.
- Have a backup plan: Even if you have a full-ride scholarship or savings to cover your education, filing the FAFSA can help you access additional aid if unexpected expenses come up.
