We Are Hillcrest!

Aspire Testing (ONLY 9th and 10th graders)

Attention Students and Parents:

All 9th & 10th grade students in Canyons School District will be given the State of Utah ASPIRE PLUS Test. The ASPIRE Plus test is used to measure student knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in Reading, English, Math, and Science. The test is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, 2024 & Thursday, April 11, 2024. This test is for FRESHMEN and SOPHOMORES only.

The ASPIRE Plus test will begin no later than 7:40 a.m. No students will be admitted after testing starts. Picture ID is required. Students should bring #2 pencils and an appropriate calculator. If students wish to have questions read to them, students may bring their own hardwired headphones (no Bluetooth). If you have any questions, please contact Hillcrest High School at 801-826-6000.

All 11th and 12th-grade students will have a late start day, and all students will resume their regular classes at 10:45 am.

IMPORTANT TESTING REMINDERS:

DO:  

  • Bring your school-issued Chromebook (fully charged)
  • Arrive ON TIME to your assigned room – testing begins no later than 7:40 a.m.
  • Bring a Photo ID (current school ID or Driver’s License)
  • Bring Number 2 pencils and a permitted calculator
  • Bring your own hardwired headphones (no Bluetooth)

DO NOT:              

  • DO NOT bring a CELL PHONE
  • DO NOT bring any type of ELECTRONIC DEVICES
  • DO NOT eat or drink in the testing room
  • DO NOT bring scratch paper, notes, reading material, or any unauthorized testing aids

    As a reminder, all 10th and 11th grade students will have a late start on Wednesday, April 10th, and Thursday, April 11th (10:45 am) to allow 9th and 10th graders to take the ASPIRE Plus test in the morning.

Alumni Spotlight

2023 Hillcrest Alum, Jayashabari (Shabari) Shankar is currently a freshman at MIT. At MIT, she is in a social initiative challenge for a research project using machine learning to develop eco-friendly sources of fuel to replace firewood use in Malawi and other countries in southern Africa. She and her teammates are finalists in MIT’s twenty-year-old social impact challenge called “IDEAS.” The last step is public voting, and she and her teammates hope to win! Hillcrest Robotics

Our HHS robotics team will be competing in Las Vegas this week against teams from 6 states and 5 countries, including The Netherlands, Canada, Taiwan, and Australia! This is their shot to qualify for the World Championships in Houston in April. If you’d like to check out the tournament matches and elimination rounds, they will be broadcast on Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/firstinspires3. The matches are on Friday from around 10:30 to 5:00 and Saturday at about the same time. Good luck, robotics!

HHS Preschool Registration 2024/2025

Huskies! Registration for the Hillcrest Jr. Huskies Preschool is now open for the 2024/2025 school year. Tuition is $70/month. They meet twice a week from 10-12 am. CSD Vaccine Clinic

There is a CSD Vaccine Clinic on March 29th at the Canyons District Office (9361 S 300 E) All school-required vaccines will be available.

Formal Dress & Suit Giveaway

The prom is on April 27th! Hillcrest is hosting a formal dress and suit giveaway on April 9th & 10th from 2:30 pm-4 pm in the Hosting Room. Come try on or keep free dress clothes. Free alterations will be available. 

Hillcrest is also partnering with the Corner Canyon SBOs to collect dresses for our giveaway. Dresses, suits, dress shirts, and formal wear/accessories can be dropped off at the Corner Canyon or Hillcrest Main Office through March 29. Donations can also be brought to the giveaway on April 9th & 10th.

Scholarships

The Hillcrest Alumni Association is offering three scholarships for our graduating seniors. All of these scholarships are need-based and can be used for vocational/trade school as well as college. 1. The Hillcrest High Alumni Association 2024 Scholarships

  • Multiple scholarships will be awarded: the exact number to be determined.
  • Scholarship value: to be determined (over the past 5 years, recipients were awarded an average of $2,000 each) 
  • Eligibility: Open to 2024 Hillcrest High graduates.

 2. Lorene Mark Scholarship 2024 – The Power of Words and Education

Lorene Mark is a former Hillcrest High educator. She taught language arts at Hillcrest from 1962 till 1988. She was passionate about what she did, and she had a great influence on many students over the years.

  • One Lorene Mark 2024 Scholarship will be awarded.
  • Value: $3,000
  • Eligibility: Open to 2024 Hillcrest High School graduates.
    • To be awarded to a student majoring in English or Education 
    •  OR a student who has been empowered through writing and language skills.

3.  Raymond A. Spilker Scholarship – Education is a Decision

Raymond Spilker is a former educator. He taught at Evergreen Jr. High in SLC for 32 years.  He had a special connection to Hillcrest through his children and grandchildren who attended HHS. He felt strongly that education and vocational training are important in giving students a foundation to be successful in life.  

  • One Raymond A. Spilker Scholarship will be awarded.
  • Value: $2,500
  • Eligibility: Open to 2024 Hillcrest graduates.
    • Must attend a trade school, vocational training program, or college in Utah.

FAFSA

Don’t forget to fill out the FAFSA! It’s highly encouraged for seniors planning to attend college to complete the FAFSA, as it opens up eligibility for scholarships, financial aid, loans, and work-study jobs. The hard deadline to submit the FAFSA is June 30, 2024, but it’s highly recommended to have it submitted sooner in order to meet college deadlines. If you need assistance in completing the FAFSA, please contact Hillcrest’s College Access Advisor, Halle Meckl, at halle.meckl@canyonsdistrict.org or 801-826-6092.

We are a Community School!

We will have fresh fruits, vegetables, and other pantry items available at the Farmers Market at 2 pm in the cafeteria for students and their families. First come, first serve.

Our Hillcrest Free Market provides food, clothing, laundry, and hygiene products for our students and their families. Students who want to visit the market must check in to student support in A171.

Parents of SENIORS- we need you to help plan GRAD NIGHT!!! The all-night party for our Seniors at Dimple Dell Rec Center on May 29th.
