Principal’s Message:
Sterling Scholars State Winners/Runners Up:
Last week the winners and runners-up of the Wasatch Front Sterling Scholar competition were announced.
Our state finalists were:
Ian Tsai—Computer Technology
Anna Hsu–Science
Rushmeen Tariq—Social Sciences
Sydney Smith—World Languages
We had two runners-up!
Anna Hsu—Science! and,
Rushmeen Tariq—Social Science!
FYI: Hillcrest would have had an awesome representation during the semi-final interview process. Thirteen out of our 14 Sterling Scholars were in the top 15. Due to COVID (yay L), semi-final interviews were not held this year. (Call me biased, but those interviews are a big deal and can really make a difference in the selection process.) Since the semi-final interviews were not held, the students were judged solely on their portfolios and four students were chosen from each region (North Region: West High through Cache County; Central Region: Salt Lake Valley; South Region: Alta, Corner Canyon and Utah County) for a total of 12 state finalists. (Also, FYI: charter and magnet schools participate as well.) Once again, our students are awesome and represented Hillcrest well!
Here are the semi-finalists:
Anya Tiwari—Business & Marketing
Ian Tsai—Computer Technology
Sophie Greenwood—Dance
Brighton Williams—Family & Consumer Science
Abigail Morrell—Instrumental Music
Ilha Hwang—Mathematics
Anna Hsu—Science
Nami Robinson—Skilled & Technical
Rushmeen Tariq—Social Science
Elizabeth Martin—Speech, Theatre & Forensics
Laura Bush—Visual Arts
Ethan Kendrick—Vocal Performance
Sydney Smith—World Languages
Thank you to all of you for your support of the program, but more importantly, thank you for all you do for our students, every one of them, here at Hillcrest!
