The new quarter begins Monday, March 20th. Please have a conversation at home about attending all classes on time and participating in class. Every student has a fresh start in Quarter 4. Let’s start with a new commitment to school!

Aspire Testing (ONLY 9th and 10th graders)
Attention Students and Parents:
All 9th & 10th-grade students in Canyons School District will be given the State of Utah ASPIRE PLUS Test. The ASPIRE Plus test is used to measure student knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in Reading, English, Math, and Science. The test is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, 2023, and Thursday, April 13, 2023. This test is for FRESHMEN and SOPHOMORES only.
The ASPIRE Plus test will begin no later than 7:40 a.m. No students will be admitted after testing starts. Picture ID is required. Students should bring #2 pencils and an appropriate calculator. If students wish to have questions read to them, students may bring their own hardwired headphones (no Bluetooth). If you have any questions, please contact Hillcrest High School at 801-826-6000.
All 11th and 12th-grade students will have a late start day and all students will resume their regular classes at 10:45 am.
IMPORTANT TESTING REMINDERS:

- Bring your school-issued Chromebook (fully charged)
- Arrive ON TIME to your assigned room – testing begins no later than 7:40 a.m.
- Bring a Photo ID (current school ID or Driver’s License)
- Bring Number 2 pencils and a permitted calculator
- Bring your own hardwired headphones (no Bluetooth)

*Juniors and Seniors that take the bus to school in the morning must report to the gym to work on school work.

As a reminder, all 11th and 12th-grade students will have a late start on Wednesday, April 12th, and Thursday, April 13th (10:45 am) to allow 9th and 10th graders to take the ASPIRE Plus test in the morning.

The countdown to graduation has begun! It will be here before you know it! Here are a few important reminders:
- IF YOU HAVEN’T ORDERED YOUR CAP AND GOWN: Caps and gowns must be ordered as soon as possible to ensure we have the size and to have them delivered to the school on time. Order online at www.jostens.com.

ADVANCED AND HONORS DIPLOMA
Seniors,
Do you qualify for an Advanced or Honors Diploma? Applications are available in the Senior Green Sheets OR You can pick one up at the Registrar’s office. Please complete, sign and return your application to Mrs. J’s wire basket, located in the Counseling Center. Applications are due, on or before, Friday, March 31, 2023.
SENIOR FAFSA LUNCH – MARCH 30th
The Hillcrest Counselors and College Access Advisors will host a FAFSA Lunch on March 30th from 11:00 am-1:00 pm in the Hillcrest Hosting Room. The FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid is used to determine financial aid eligibility at colleges, universities, and technical schools. If your senior needs help getting started, finishing the form, or even just making some progress, they can visit the Hosting Room during their lunch. There will be pizza for them! Seniors will also be given step-by-step instructions on how to complete their forms. If your child is attending, please click this link for documents needed to complete the FAFSA: FAFSA Documents. SLCC Multicultural Conference (Juniors Only)
Juniors, join us for the Salt Lake Community College Multicultural Conference on April 14th from 8 am-1 pm. Attend workshops, win prizes, and learn about college. Please talk to Max Huftalin in Student Support (A171) to sign up or contact him at max.huftalin@canyonsdistrict.org, or (801) 826-6092. The deadline to sign up is March 31st. Bus transportation will be provided to and from the school; however, this event is on a Friday, and we will arrive back at school after the buses leave. Please make sure you have transportation back home.
Math Summer Bridge Programs
Canyons School District High School Math Secondary Honors Summer Bridge Course
If you are an incoming 10th grader who took Secondary I in 9th grade and would like to take Secondary II HONORS in 10th grade, this course is for you!
During this class, students will study the Pre-Calculus concepts taught in the Secondary I Honors course: vectors, matrices, determinants, Cramer’s rule, and operations on matrices and vectors. Students will need to show mastery of concepts through the end-of-course assessment.
The class will be held June 5th- June 15th Monday-Thursday (No class on Fridays) 9 am-11 am. Classes will be held in person at Jordan High School (95 Beetdigger Blvd, Sandy, Utah 84070)

University of Utah Summer Mathematics Program for High School Students
The Summer Mathematics Program for High School Students at the University of Utah provides outstanding students an opportunity to develop their math talents to the fullest. Participants will receive three University credits in mathematics.

Cheer Tryouts
If you’re interested in being part of the Hillcrest High School Cheer and Stunt team,
there is a tryout meeting Wednesday, March 29, at 6:00 in the Presentation room at Hillcrest. Mandatory tryout clinics will be held on April 10 & 12 from 6:00-8:00, where athletes will learn the tryout material. Tryouts will be held on April 14th beginning at 3:30.

ADULT VISION CLINIC at East Midvale Elementary
Utah Partners for Health is bringing their vision van to East Midvale Elementary on Thursday, March 30th for adults to be seen. Appointments will include a free eye exam and free glasses that are mailed to the client if needed. There are about 20 spots still available! To make an appointment please call 385-204-6257. This clinic is for ADULTS ONLY. The clinic is 9 am-2 pm at East Midvale Elementary (6990 S 300 E, Midvale, UT)
The Hillcrest Free Market is running out of food for our students and their families! We are asking for immediate donations of:

- Applesauce Pouches
- Yogurt pouches
- Granola Bars
- Breakfast Bars

Thank you for your help all year in feeding and clothing our students and families in need!
Please check out our Amazon Wish List for clothing and hygiene items as well as our Success Fund, where we fundraise for vegetables, fruits, and other fresh food for our meal bags.
If you or you know of families that would like to participate in our monthly meal bags or to join our parent square list, please have them fill out this form HERE, and we will contact them. Meal bags typically include eggs, meat, and other items. Every Tuesday after school, we provide fresh produce on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Cafeteria.
